Singapore gardens: Cloud Forest

Our next stop is the Cloud Forest, a moisture and temperature controlled environment, again enclosed with a glass and metal dome.

From seven stories above us, water falls down, splashing the paving and giving us a cooling shower as we try to take photos of each other posing in front of it.

Following the crowd, we walk in a clockwise

direction, taking photo after photo in an effort to record the myriad colours and shapes that sprout from and cling to the sides of the ‘mountain.’

Above us, a metal walkway seems to

hang in space. Gaps between the massed plants enable people to look out from the different levels as they climb upwards. Several times a day the place is sprayed by mist – the plants obviously thrive in the ‘clouds.’

Unfortunately, we’re too tired to stay and watch the 4pm show.

An army of gardeners must be required to keep everything so healthy yet we only see two of them. Perhaps there is an internal passage way around the inside of the structure, where numerous elves  operate out of sight.

Climbing up seven flights on the walkways is too

difficult and scary for us so we take the lift to the sixth floor where we look out through the waterfall and across the bay.
